Esther House Volunteer Opportunities (Alpha order)
Addiction Recovery Facilitator
Facilitate “Walking the 12 Steps with Jesus Christ” in the Esther House. Requires the facilitator to be in recovery five to ten years and a commitment of one time per week. (Requires an interview with our Addiction Recovery Leader).
AA Speaker Meetings in House
Leader will be in recovery five to ten years. She will bring weekly speaker meetings into the Esther House. The AA women brought in by the Leader will be in recovery more than a year, have a desire to help other women and maintain a life-style free of alcohol, drugs and other addictions. (Requires an interview with our Addiction Recovery Leader).
Clothing and Hygiene Coordinator
Maintain inventory of clothing, hygiene, bedding, sheets, etc. – sort / store in bins in Esther House garage; identify needs; package excess for donation to thrift stores.
Cosmetology Friends
Serve the Esther Women with haircuts, manicures, pedicures or by teaching make-up techniques
Craft Facilitator
Provide leisure time craft activities with the Esther Women (cannot cost $$$ for them) such as crocheting, knitting, repurposing, etc.
Employment Assistance
Assist in resume development, job hunting, interviewing techniques and preparation, dress for success, work ethic discussions, etc.
Food Coordinator
Be familiar with the food supply in the house; develop relationships with the leaders of the local food pantries; provide weekly grocery needs; pick up / arrange for pick-up of food at the pantries.
Fund Raising Events
Be part of a team that brainstorms / proposes fund raising events during the year.
Gardening Coordinator
Familiarity with landscaping / lawn mowing / gardening needs; define planting / weeding / maintaining / harvesting schedules; teach Esther Women – mowers provided
House Mom – Day
A Christian woman who will stay at the house during the day time shift (requires a minimum shift of four hours). Day shift begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. They will be a positive role model - teaching by demonstrating, guiding, leading and loving. They will hand off to the Night Mom.
House Mom – Night
A Christian woman who will stay and sleep at the house during the night time (requires a twelve hour shift). Night shift begins at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 a.m. They will be a positive role model and companion to all. They will hand off to the Day Mom.
Nutritional Trainer
Provide nutritional education including menu planning, grocery budgeting and nutritional meal preparation.
Pen Pal / Encourager
Serve by sending a hand-written note card to each Esther Woman.
Prayer Warriors
Prayer is needed 24 x 7 – you can participate by praying for the women, the house, the ministry, the program.
Program Facilitator
Facilitate one of our core classes. This role requires a facilitator (interacting with the women) not a teacher (lecturing at the women) and requires a four hour shift commitment once a week. The class time is typically one hour with facilitation of scheduled activities for the remaining three hours of the shift.
Transportation Friend
Transportation assistance is needed for the Esther Women. Be available to drive client to doctor’s appointment and remain with her in the waiting room, return her safely to the Esther House; transport to approved volunteer activities; be a driver for field trips; transportation to and from employment.
